New Year's Resolutions in 2016

Published by Matt Brown on 8th Jan 2016

Each year, many of us choose to make a resolution, something to give up or to achieve which will help to improve our life, or general well-being, and each year it can be relied upon for someone to poll the most popular among these.

This week, ITV have published their own poll of the most popular New Year's resolutions. Unsurprisingly, giving up smoking ranks highly, but what is remarkable is that it occupies fourth place (on just 7%) below the other stalwarts - losing weight and reducing alcohol consumption. Reducing time spent using social media isn't all that far behind, on 4%.

Our own (very unscientific) research also reveals that according to Google, more people are now seeking help giving up Facebook than smoking. Only alcohol currently ranks higher among web searches than the social media giant.

Despite giving up smoking continuing to place in the top 10 most popular New Year's resolutions, perhaps the rise of more modern entries suggests that smokers are finding it easier than ever to quit tobacco? We've certainly seen the statistics back this up, with smokers more likely to be successful in staying away from tobacco once they switch to vaping than any recognised form of nicotine replacement therapy.

In our ever-increasingly connected world, smokers no longer only have to rely on cessation devices alone. Rather, they can rely on their fellow smokers to offer top tips for quitting. More and more people are spreading the word about switching from smoking to vaping as a better alternative to giving up than using cessation devices, which have only a 7% success rate compared to 84% of JV customers (as revealed in our own polling).

Today, New Year puritans are just as likely to look for assistance putting down their status updates than the cigarettes. The flip-side of this, of course, is if people gave up social media then the vaping message may not reach such a wide audience, so let's hope that smokers don’t give them both up at once.

If you've already conquered your social media addictions (or happy to revel in them) and decide that giving up cigarettes may be more your style, why not make the switch to vaping instead, using JAC Vapour electronic cigarettes? If you're brand new to vaping and aren't sure what device might be right for you, why not contact our friendly customer service team or check out our selection of e cigarette starter kits.
