What is Stealth Vaping?
Stealth vaping is vaping discreetly - minimising visible vapour in situations where clouds would be unwelcome or inconsiderate to those around you.
When JAC launched Clear Steam™ in 2014, stealth vaping was a niche concept. A decade on, the context has changed considerably. Vaping restrictions are tightening; the Tobacco and Vapes Act, granted Royal Assent in April 2026, includes powers to extend vape-free restrictions to new public settings beyond existing indoor bans. Many venues already prohibit vaping regardless of legal requirements.
Stealth vaping is now simply the considerate way to vape in shared spaces.
How to reduce vapour
Technique
Four simple habits make a significant difference:
- Take shorter draws; as less inhaled means less exhaled
- Hold briefly before exhaling; as vapour continues to dissipate in your lungs
- Exhale slowly and downward; as vapour will disperse faster than a sharp outward breath
- Use mouth-to-lung inhalation; to draw into the mouth first, then inhale into the lungs
Technique alone has limits. If your device and e-liquid are producing dense clouds, you can reduce them but not eliminate them.
Device and e-liquid
This is where the real difference is made.
VG (vegetable glycerine) is what creates visible vapour clouds. The higher the VG content in your e-liquid, the more visible your exhale. High PG e-liquids produce significantly less vapour - JAC's high PG ranges produce considerably less than standard 50/50 e-liquids.
Device choice matters too. Higher resistance coils - 1.0ohm and above - operate at lower wattages and produce less vapour by design. A low wattage mouth-to-lung device with a 1.0ohm pod is the right hardware for discretion.
JAC's original vapourless e-liquid
In 2014, JAC Vapour co-founder and vaping engineer Andrew Logan created Clear Steam™, the UK's first vapourless e-liquid. His goal was straightforward: an e-liquid with a completely invisible exhale. Not reduced vapour. Zero visible vapour.
Standard e-liquids use vegetable glycerine to produce visible clouds on exhale. Clear Steam™ contains no VG, instead using an ultra-refined formula of 90% PG and 10% distilled water. This combination dissipates before you exhale, leaving no visible trace.
The result is full flavour, full throat hit and full nicotine satisfaction - with a completely invisible exhale. Clear Steam™ also leaves almost no lingering smell and doesn't cling to clothes or soft furnishings.
Getting the most from Clear Steam™
Technique matters here more than with standard e-liquids. Inhale fully and hold briefly before exhaling. Puffing without a full inhale will still produce a small amount of vapour, though significantly less than any normal e-liquid.

Where stealth vaping is appropriate
The UK's vaping landscape is changing. The Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026 includes powers to extend vape-free restrictions to public settings, and many venues already prohibit vaping regardless of current law. Always follow explicit rules as stealth vaping doesn't make vaping permitted where it's banned.
That said, there are many situations where vaping is permitted but discretion is simply good etiquette.
