Stealth Vaping: How to Vape Discreetly (UK Guide)

At a glance
  • Stealth vaping means vaping discreetly, with little to no visible vapour
  • Your device and e-liquid matter more than technique
  • Clear Steam™ is the UK's first vapourless e-liquid – zero visible exhale
  • Discretion doesn't override no-vaping rules

What is Stealth Vaping?

Stealth vaping means vaping discreetly – keeping vapour to a minimum out of consideration for people around you. It's about courtesy, not getting around the rules. If a venue says no vaping, that still applies.

Stealth vaping is simply the considerate way to vape around others.

How to reduce vapour

Technique

Four simple habits make a significant difference:

  • Take shorter draws – less inhaled means less exhaled
  • Hold briefly before exhaling – vapour breaks down in your lungs
  • Exhale slowly, and downward – it disperses faster
  • Use mouth-to-lung, not direct-to-lung – it's naturally lower vapour

Technique has limits, though. If your device and e-liquid are built for clouds, no amount of technique fully hides that.

Device and e-liquid

This is where the real difference happens.

VG (vegetable glycerine) creates visible vapour. The more VG in your e-liquid, the bigger the cloud. High PG e-liquids produce far less – JAC's high-PG ranges give noticeably less vapour than a standard 50/50 blend.

Device matters too. Higher-resistance coils – 1.0ohm and above – run at lower wattages and produce less vapour by design. A low-wattage mouth-to-lung device with a 1.0ohm pod is the right setup for discretion.

JAC's original vapourless e-liquid

Andrew Logan – JAC Vapour's co-founder and vaping engineer – created Clear Steam™ in 2014. The goal was simple: an e-liquid with a completely invisible exhale. Not less vapour. None.

Standard e-liquids use VG to build visible clouds. Clear Steam™ contains none. It's an ultra-refined blend of 90% PG and 10% distilled water, which breaks down before you exhale.

The result: full flavour, full throat hit, full nicotine satisfaction – with nothing to see, and barely any lingering smell.

Two flavours, both since 2014

A genuinely popular choice

Clear Steam itself has been in our range since we created it in 2014. Roughly 4 in 5 Clear Steam customers go on to reorder, typically every four to five weeks. It's extremely popular with our customers.

Getting the most from Clear Steam™

Technique matters more here than with standard e-liquids. Inhale fully, hold briefly, then exhale. A partial inhale still produces a small amount of vapour – much less than a normal e-liquid, but not zero.

For best results, use a low-wattage device with a 1.0ohm pod. The ARX 1 Pro is JAC's recommended pairing. If you don't already have a device, the Clear Steam™ Vapourless Vape Kit comes set up for this out of the box.

FAQs

Is stealth vaping legal in the UK?

Stealth vaping isn't illegal in itself. Whether you can vape in a particular location depends on the rules of that venue or setting, not on how much vapour you produce. The Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026 includes powers to extend vape-free areas, so always check current rules for your location.

Will Clear Steam™ set off smoke alarms?

Clear Steam™ produces extremely thin particles rather than the dense vapour that triggers most optical smoke alarms. It is significantly less likely to trigger alarms than standard e-liquids, but no e-liquid can guarantee alarm safety in all environments.

What device works best for stealth vaping?

A low wattage mouth-to-lung device with a 1.0ohm pod. The ARX 1 Pro paired with Clear Steam™ is JAC's recommended stealth vaping setup.

Can I use Clear Steam™ in any device?

Clear Steam™ works in any refillable vaping device. For a truly invisible exhale, a low wattage MTL device with a 1.0ohm pod is recommended.

What's the difference between stealth vaping and zero vaping?

Zero vaping means exhaling no vapour at all. Stealth vaping is the broader idea – vaping discreetly, which might mean less vapour rather than none. Clear Steam™ is built for zero vaping specifically: nothing to see, not just less of it.

Does stealth vaping stop the smell as well as the vapour?

Not automatically – vapour and smell are separate problems. Sweet or dessert flavours tend to linger longest; menthol and tobacco profiles fade faster. Clear Steam™ addresses both, with minimal smell alongside its invisible exhale.

Does less vapour mean less flavour or throat hit?

Not with the right e-liquid. High-PG blends actually give a stronger throat hit than high-VG ones – you're not trading satisfaction for discretion. Clear Steam™ keeps full flavour and throat hit despite producing no visible vapour. See our PG vs VG guide for why.

Can I be allergic to Clear Steam™?

Clear Steam™ has an extremely high PG content. If you know you are allergic or intolerant to propylene glycol, Clear Steam™ is not suitable for you.
